Museum of the Institute of History and Philology (IHP), Academia Sinica Mini Bricks
Wang Da-hong(1918-2018), the architect of the IHP Museum, was the first Taiwanese to receive comprehensive modern Western architectural education. Winner of the first Golden Tripod Awards for architecture, Wang in 2013 was honored with the National Cultural Awards. Wang’s architectural language is “simple and organic.” There isn’t any excessive, redundant design—a characteristic that bespeaks Bauhaus school. Of his masterpieces, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is the most well-known. Here at Academia Sinica, there are quite a few buildings by Wang. Take the IHP Museum, it was built in 1986. Structurally, it is a clean-cut, square, towering and solid building—an architectural embodiment of the name WANG Da- hong—grand and stately.
